(I got permission to make this rebloggable.)
This is a serious issue in the fan fiction writing world, and it needs to be addressed. You guys, no one gets paid to write fan fiction (legally, anyways, but that’s a different issue), so each and every one of these brave writers are doing so in their fucking spare time, for their own enjoyment, and for the enjoyment of their readers.
Kinda like blogging… but often with more effort and forethought.
And yet, anonymous complainers (I wanted to put an expletive in there, instead, but I decided to keep this clean and more level-headed sounding so it goes with the reply above… this is hard sometimes) like the one you see above don’t seem to understand that. They see their end of it, the reader, the consumer, the non-paying consumer, and all they want is more. And, well, that’s a good thing to want more, that’s what any writer should be wanting out of this deal… but the thing is that you can’t badger a producer of a free service into giving you more of the free thing. That’s preposterous. It’s greedy and rude.
Then there’s the insult. Trying to get more of a free thing by being expectant and rude is bad enough, but to insult the quality of the free thing one is trying to get more of is just downright stupid.
Yes, stupid.
I really have to ask, too… if you don’t think they’re any good, if you don’t think this free service being provided to you is of high quality, then why are you so concerned over getting more of it? Clearly it’s good enough to have you expecting more free-thing in your pocket.
TL;DR: Insults will never get you more of what you want, in any scenario remotely similar to this. Fan fiction is free. Writers are not paid. They will write when they write, and post when they post, and you can either be grateful you’re getting any of that writing at all, or you can shut the fuck up and jog on.
